Tamaioasa Romaneasca is a grape variety with a tradition of over 2000 years in Romania....
Vezi vinuriFeteasca Neagra is a variety of old grapes, mainly cultivated in Moldova and in the neighboring regions. The origin of this variety obtained from Vitis silvestris from the times of the Dacians is thought to by the area of the Uricani locality in Iasi county. In the beginning, it was cultivated between the Carpathians and the Dniester river, and later was carried throughout Romania and the Republic of Moldova of today, due to its qualities and adaptability to the climate conditions in this region. These grapes produce a red wine, with ruby tinges, character wines, with fresh acidity and firm tannins and a spicy note at the end.
Feteasca Neagra is not a grape easily cultivated. Due to its high vigor, it requires effort within the vineyard and due to its thin skin, it is susceptible to fungal diseases, especially powdery mildew. The decision of the optimum harvesting time is a greater challenge than for other varieties of red grapes, due to the fact that it is prone to accumulating too much sugar before reaching phenolic maturity.
With delicate fragrances of red and black fruits, especially ripe ones, black plums, soft, silky tannins, round body, this grape seems to be better suited for young and fruity wines, to the detriment of wines aged in new oak casks.
